Safety is the foundation of efficiency. To protect your team and prolong the lifespan of your Nanjing Haisi twin-screw extruders, every operator must strictly adhere to these 12 safety protocols.

1. Pre-Start Inspection

Before every startup, perform a comprehensive inspection. Ensure there are no foreign objects in the barrel or hopper. Verify that all fastening bolts are tightened, safety guards are securely in place, and all emergency stop buttons are functional. Lubricate all required points and maintain a clean workspace.

2. Control System Validation

Test the temperature control system, instrumentation, and cooling water lines before operation. Use thermometers and manual water flow tests to ensure sensors are accurate and cooling channels are unobstructed.

3. Thermal Equilibrium Protocol

Heat the screw, barrel, and die head according to the standard operating procedure. Once the set temperature is reached, soak the equipment for an additional 10 minutes to ensure "thermal equilibrium"—where heat is evenly distributed throughout the metal components.

4. The "Cold-Start" and "Splash" Prevention

Always notify nearby personnel before starting the machine. Tighten all die head bolts while the machine is hot. Crucially: Operators must never stand directly in front of the die head during the initial melt discharge to prevent injury from potential bolt failure or pressurized material splashes.

5. Low-Speed Start-Up & Monitoring

Initiate the motor at the lowest possible speed. Monitor the ammeter for abnormal fluctuations. If you hear unusual noises or notice screw instability, stop immediately. Never dry-run the screw for more than 30 minutes. Before assembly, apply molybdenum disulfide or silicone oil to die bolts to prevent seizing.

6. Initial Feeding Caution

During the start of production, keep the screw at minimum speed. Add material in small, uniform increments. Closely watch the motor's current; any sudden spike indicates a potential jam or un-melted material ("Cold Start" bridge).

7. Bearing and Component Safety

Regularly monitor the temperature of motor bearings. When checking temperatures manually, use the back of your hand for a brief touch. Never touch any rotating parts (shafts, couplings, or fans) while the equipment is in motion.

8. Handling Precision Components

When installing or removing screws and dies, never strike parts directly with a heavy steel hammer. Use a rubber mallet or place a block of hardwood/copper between the hammer and the part to prevent deformation of precision surfaces.

9. Scientific Cleaning Procedures

Use only bamboo or copper scrapers and brushes to clean residue from screws and barrels. Professional screw-cleaning compounds or water/air cleaning systems are preferred. Prohibit the use of steel knives or continuous open flames, as these damage the metallurgy of the screw. Never perform maintenance while the machine is running.

10. Constant Supervision

Operators are strictly prohibited from leaving the machine unattended during operation. If you must leave the station, the extruder must be safely shut down first.

11. Post-Production Maintenance

After shutdown, remove and clean the screw immediately while it is still warm. Apply a coat of rust-preventative oil. If the screw is to be stored, it should be wrapped and hung vertically in a dry, ventilated area to prevent bending/warping.

12. Long-Term Storage

For extruders and accessories being taken out of service for extended periods, apply rust-proof grease to all machined surfaces. Seal all inlets and outlets (hopper and die zones) to prevent dust, moisture, or pests from entering the barrel.
