The Difference Between PVC and TPE Mats

TPV and TPE are the current mainstream materials for car floor mats.

PVC material products used to be the most produced general-purpose plastic in the world. The biggest feature of PVC is flame retardancy, so it is widely used in fire protection applications.

Thermoplastic elastomer TPE has been very popular abroad in recent years. TPE material products have the characteristics of high strength, high resilience, and can be directly processed by injection molding.

PVC foot pads and TPE foot pads have high toughness, good durability and long service life, and both can be used for more than three years. After the process reaches the standard, it can be odorless, easy to rinse, and easy to dry.

A brief overview of the differences between PVC and TPE mats:

1. PVC itself is non-toxic, but the main auxiliary materials such as plasticizers and anti-aging agents added during processing are toxic, and formaldehyde and other harmful substances will be decomposed at high temperatures.

2. Inferior PVC floor mats will produce serious odor when the temperature is high in summer.

However, TPE products have good weather resistance, fatigue resistance and temperature resistance, good processing performance without vulcanization, no need to add plasticizers, can be recycled to reduce costs, and can also be re-injected. Because of its high temperature resistance and no additives, it will not emit odor in summer.

The difference between TPE and PVC:

1. TPE is more suitable for use in high temperature environments in summer, and it is also more suitable for families with pregnant women and babies. After all, there is no need to worry about health problems.

2. However, the disadvantage of TPE is that the injection molding process requires high requirements, and the mold development is difficult. The price of TPE products is about one-third higher than that of PVC products. Due to development costs and other reasons, TPE floor mats are not as popular as PVC floor mats on the market. In China, a few manufacturers choose TPE materials for production.

3. Although TPE mats are better than PVC mats in terms of health, there are few TPE manufacturers and the price is relatively high.
