What is color masterbatch?

Color Masterbatch is also called color species, which is a new type of special colorant for polymer materials, also known as pigment preparation. Color masterbatch is mainly used in plastics. Color masterbatch is composed of pigment or dye, carrier and additive. It is an aggregate made by uniformly loading super constant pigment into the resin. It can be called pigment concentrate, so its coloring power is higher than the pigment itself. When processing, a small amount of color masterbatch and uncolored resin can be mixed to achieve the design pigment concentration of colored resin or products.


What are the ingredients of the masterbatch?

1. Pigment or dye

Pigments are divided into organic pigments and inorganic pigments

2. Carrier

It is the base of the color masterbatch. The special color masterbatch generally chooses the same resin as the product resin as the carrier, the compatibility of the two is the best, but the fluidity of the carrier should also be considered.

3. Dispersant

The melting point of dispersant should be lower than that of resin, it has good compatibility with resin and good affinity with pigment. The most commonly used dispersants are polyethylene low molecular wax and stearate.

4. Additives

Such as flame retardant, brightening, antibacterial, antistatic, antioxidant and other varieties. In general, the color masterbatch does not contain the above additives unless required by the customer.


How do masterbatch formula affect the homogenization properties of injection molded parts?

1. Dispersion of masterbatch. Dispersion has a great influence on the quality of injection molding products. The dispersibility of Color Masterbatch depends on the product. The color masterbatch with good dispersibility has a smooth surface and consistent color.

2. Heat resistance of masterbatch. Generally speaking, the heat resistance of light color masterbatch is worse than that of dark color masterbatch; the heat resistance of color matching masterbatch is worse than that of single color masterbatch; the heat resistance of the masterbatch made of organic pigment and dye is worse than that of the masterbatch made of inorganic pigment.

3. Weather resistance of masterbatch. Because the pigment dyes in the color masterbatch can shield the light, the addition of the color masterbatch is conducive to the light stability of the injection molding products.

4. Migration resistance of masterbatch. The migration performance of color masterbatch is that the pigment or dye in color masterbatch migrates from the interior of plastic products to the surface of products, or migrates to adjacent products or solvents through an interface. This phenomenon occurs when the plasticizer is added too much.
